Watch the Netflix documentary on MDMA-assisted psychotherapy
The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) has been exploring the potential of MDMA for treating trauma. The results from this research are promising. Under the supervision of a doctor and therapist, patients with PTSD are given 3 doses of MDMA, one month apart from each other, with preparation and integration sessions before and after each session This film documents a few patients in the study and describes their process of healing using this modality.. In the series, Pollan explains the differences between MDMA and psilocybin or LSD. MDMA does not cause hallucinations but facilitates the release of serotonin to the brain. This serotonin release triggers the feeling of loving connection and openness. MDMA also triggers the release of oxytocin, which enhances feelings of connectivity and empathy. |
