Nada Yoga, or Sound Bath, is the practice of deepening consciousness through sound, which originated in ancient India. Everything in us and around us is in motion and has sound—some we can hear and some we can’t. Produced and transmitted by the vibration of matter at the molecular level, sound is a phenomenon that is both objective and subjective. What I offer is a form of meditation that is facilitated by the music from gongs, drums, singing bowls, and chimes. These instruments produce sounds which invoke a deep state of relaxation which naturally assists one in entering into meditation. The resonance of the instruments is strong. It is not just an auditory experience; it’s also like receiving a sound massage. Most people experience deep states of relaxation and altered states of consciousness. You can also treat the sound bath as a meditation and focus your mind on the sounds. The experience can expand our consciousness and increase mental focus and awareness. Generally people leave sound baths feeling relaxed, balanced, and re-tuned.
The ancient Gong, which originated in China during the Bronze Age, is said to be the oldest instrument. Its complex range of vibrations and rhythms create a profound soundscape that has a deeply healing and re-balancing effect on the body’s energy field. It creates tones that physically affect every cell in the body and literally re-order the molecules to promote healing. It stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system associated with slowing the heart rate, and regulating organ and gland functioning. It also increases vital life force energy, improves circulation and has a deeply calming effect on the mind and body. To facilitate this experience I use a variety of gongs, crystal bowls, drums, and chimes to assist clients in achieving deep states of awareness and to promote healing.
